The story of SEW+Tanzania

SEW (Supporting + Empowering Women) or SEW+Tanzania, is a social enterprise working in partnership with HIV+ women. We seek to erode discrimination in the workforce. To that end, we demonstrate the resilience, capability and creativity of those living with the virus in Tanzania.

Our main focus is on producing fair trade conference accessories, including bags and document wallets. Our hand-stitched, recycled-plastic products has earned us renowned clients such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the John Monash Foundation, The World Food Program, Westfall Group and Oxfam. We have also been featured in Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2015, Harper's Bazaar and The Guardian Australia.

FAQ

Where does the money go?

The money made from purchases of Zwadi go directly to supporting the Sewing Mamas in Tanzania in the form of income and healthcare support. We pay our Mamas a fixed monthly income, which due to COVID-19 has been impacted as we can no longer sell conference bags, so each and every purchase helps.

Who are the SEW+Tanzania Committee?

The Committee is made up of volunteers based in Melbourne, Australia and London, UK. We are lawyers, management consultants, students and marketing professionals who lend our time and skills to do a bit of good in the world. You can get in touch with us at [email protected]

How else can I help?

We are also seeking direct donations on GoFundMe in order to acquire much-needed funds for our Mamas in the short-term. You can also subscribe to our mailing list so you receive email updates from us when we share them.
